The Christianizing of Tahiti

Reacting to the stories of Tahiti, and troubled that the crew of HMS Bounty could have found life among the Tahitians preferable to life among Christians, the religious orthodoxy of England founded the London Missionary Society in 1795 (which included their own armed police force). The sole purpose of the society was to bring Tahiti under Christian rule, in effect to remove a more pleasant alternative lifestyle that threatened Christian power (my emphasis.) Two years later the first missionaries arrived in Tahiti and were as warmly treated by the Tahitians as had been earlier visitors. But after 7 years of missionary work (children were required to recite, “For what is Jehova angry with thee? Because I am evil and do evil.” in Tahitian) there were few willing converts to Christianity.

Good question. Which I will answer more directly over the weekend. In short: the “holidays” are usually pretty rough for me. Intifada (انتفاضة intifāḍat) is an Arabic word for shaking off, though it is generally translated into English as rebellion. According to a 2007 article in the Washington Post, “the word “intifada” crystallized in its current Arabic meaning during the first Palestinian uprising in the late 1980s and early 1990s”. It is often used as a term for popular resistance to oppression.^[1]

Here is a fun fact for people who only get their information from CNN don’t know: The Palestinians DO NOT have a military! Sure, there are plenty of guns and some sad little rockets but they do not have tanks, F-16s Black Hawks etc. This is not a war it is a slaughter!

Here is another fun fact: We hear that Israel is only targeting Hamas, yet often in the same broadcast we learn that most of the Hamas leadership is in hiding outside of the country. Hmmm. This does not make any sense does it? That’s because they are lying! This “war” is nothing more than ethnic cleansing and the whole world (outside of the US) knows it.

Guided by an ideology (Zionism) of racial superiority.

Demonizes a dreaded “other” group as racially inferior and thus sub-human.

Is expansionist.

Strives for the racial purity of the state and talks of a “demographic problem.”

  Puts perceived “sub-humans” in concentration camps.

Steals the property of said “sub-humans.”

Uses imprisonment and extreme torture as a political weapon.

Uses state terror as “collective punishment.”

Attempts to deal with said “demographic problem” with genocide. CHECK.

The Nazis of Israel have not only stolen the land of Palestine, they have tried to make life for the remaining Palestinians simply unbearable. The Gaza Strip is an open air prison packed with starving, defenseless and terrified people. People who talk about Palestinian aggression are either lying, ignorant or out of their fucking minds. To be frank, I think that they have been too peaceful. Ask yourself what you would do if you were under this brutal occupation.

One last thing: polls show that not only do Israelis know what is happening in Gaza…they also joyously approve.
